Book review 1-5 Pocahontas

I read "Pocahontas” yesterday. I watched a movie of "Pocahontas” when I was a child, but I didn't remember that story. This is why I borrow this book and read it.

Pocahontas is girls’ name. She lived in Virginia. She is beautiful and thirteen years old then. In January 1607 three ships left England, and lots men wanted to find a new world in west. They arrived in Virginia on the 26 th April, 1607.

Englishmen were very happy, because Virginia was beautiful. However, the Algonquin Indians of Virginia were not happy. They were afraid of the Englishmen. One of the Englishmen, John Smith was a leader. He wasn't afraid of the Indians. He was friendly, but carefully about them. He wanted to learn about Virginia, and Englishmen began to build a little town. It was called Jamestown. They believed Virginia is a new world for the English although the Indians have lived before they came.

Many of Englishmen died in winter, because the Virginia winter is long and cold. Only fifty men were alive. They needed more foods. So, John Smith decided to ask Indians to give some foods.

Powhatan was a King of Indians. He had a one daughter; Pocahontas. Powhatan wanted to guns. Some Englishmen killed Indians, as a same, some Indians killed Englishmen. Powhatan was angry. Moreover, John Smith never agrees to give guns, it made Powhatan more angrily. He decided to kill Smith, but Pocahontas liked him because of his eyes color. His blue eyes were so beautiful. These looks like sky's color. So, she said her father gave him to her.

Past a year, Pocahontas loved John, but she was only 14 years old, and John was 28. He liked her very much, but he didn't know a lot of about women and love. Pocahontas was unhappy. Another month have passed, John Smith left Jamestown because of ill. Pocahontas was surprised because she heard he was dead. He left without a letter for her. She was disappointed.

When she was 19, she married a man whose name are John Rolfe. He was an Englishman, and they had a son later. They went to England to meet the King and Queen of England. Then, she met a man, and it was surprise for her. Surprisingly, the man was John Smith. He was not died, he was alive! But, Pocahontas didn't want to meet him. She had a son and a husband. She said good bye, and she loved Smith when she was a child.

In March 1617, Pocahontas died, and John Smith never had a wife. He couldn't forget the sad, when she said good bye to him...

I felt sad when I finished reading this book. I thought John Smith loved Pocahontas, but he didn't notice. I thought this story was different from the movie of Walt Disney. It was a happy end. However, this story was not happy, but I felt real not fairy tale. I was sad when Englishmen and Indians killed each other. I thought why they fight. It was wrong. Above all, English men thought Virginia is a new world for the English was wrong! But, Indians killed them was wrong too. Why people can't live together? Why people hate a person who is different from color and appearance? I thought this is still very serious problem.
